7 Most Stunning Beaches In Croatia

by Tanya December 03, 2024

Croatia is a popular destination for tourists across the globe and when you consider the stunning beaches on its Adriatic coastline, it’s easy to see why.

The land of dreamy turquoise waters, and cobblestoned streets.

Having spent a summer (or two) frolicking along its pristine coastline, I can confirm Croatia has the beaches that inspire deep, existential joy.

With plenty of accommodation options, including beautiful villas that offer a home-from-home retreat after a day of exploring, the country is fast becoming one of the most visited destinations in Europe.

1. Zlatni Rat, Brač Island

Also known as the ‘Golden Horn’, Zlatni Rat is Croatia’s most photographed beach. Lush Mediterranean pines line the promenade, scenting the air, while the beach’s unique V-shape shifts with the tides and currents.

Zlatni Rat is the Beyoncé of beaches—iconic, impossibly photogenic, and always the main event.

Zlatni Rat offers a fine pebbled beach and crystal clear waters, making it perfect for both watersports like windsurfing and sunbathing.

2. Stiniva Beach, Vis Island

If you’re looking for a beach that’s off the beaten track, Stiniva Beach is only accessible via a narrow sea entrance or a challenging hike.

Hidden between dramatic cliffs, this tiny, secluded beach is a reward for those who love an adventure (or don’t mind kayaking or hiking down to paradise). The water here is so clear you’ll question if you’ve accidentally walked into a screensaver. Go early or go off-season because crowds can ruin even the most perfect of vibes.

3. Punta Rata, Brela

Consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world, Punta Rata is a vision of pine trees, smooth pebbles, and crystal-clear waters. The famous Brela Stone (a rock island with a tree growing out of it) is the cherry on top. Fun fact: It’s also a favorite spot for families, so expect children to be having the time of their lives while you sip your lukewarm Aperol spritz in peace.

Punta Rata’s white pebble beach, clear waters and Blue Flag status make it perfect for families and swimmers. Water sports, such as Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP), snorkelling and kayaking are also popular at this beach.

If you’d prefer not to get your feet wet, there are also cycling trails along the shore and plenty of beach bars and restaurants along the promenade, from which you can enjoy the beautiful views out to sea.

4. Sakarun Beach, Dugi Otok

Dubbed the “Caribbean of Croatia,” Sakarun is a sandy anomaly in a sea of pebbles. With shallow, calm waters that sparkle in fifty shades of blue, this beach feels like a tropical escape, minus the twelve-hour flight and jetlag. It’s perfect for lazy days, floating on your back, and wondering if you could realistically move here forever.

The beach is a popular choice for families with young children who want a safe, sheltered spot for paddling and the sandy seabed makes splashing-about more comfortable. But if it’s an adventure you’re looking for, you can also dive below the surface of the calm waters and snorkel around the remains of a sunken ship!

5. Banje Beach, Dubrovnik

Situated near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, Banje Beach provides the perfect blend of culture, views, and relaxation.

If you want to sunbathe with a view fit for royalty, Banje Beach is your go-to. Nestled just outside Dubrovnik’s Old Town, this beach offers surreal vistas of the ancient city walls and the island of Lokrum. It’s part beach, part postcard. While it leans towards the fancier, cocktails-and-sun-loungers crowd, you can always bring your own towel and rebellious spirit to soak it all in.

A popular hotspot for both tourists and locals, Banje Beach is one of the busier on our list but is nonetheless worth a visit for those visiting the ancient city of Dubrovnik.

6. Pasjača Beach, Konavle Region

Saved the best secret for last. Pasjača Beach is off the beaten path in every sense. Located at the bottom of dramatic cliffs, you’ll need to navigate a steep, winding trail to get there. But trust me, the journey is worth it. The beach is tiny, intimate, and kissed by impossibly blue waters. It’s the kind of place where you might actually finish a book—or meet the love of your life (or both).

7. Dubovica, Hvar Island

For those who appreciate beaches with a side of rustic charm, Dubovica delivers.

Accessible via a short but steep hike (read: wear comfy shoes, not flip-flops unless you’re a masochist), it’s a small slice of heaven with calm waters, a pebble shore, and an Instagram-worthy stone house overlooking the bay.

Bring snacks because there’s no café here, but honestly, doesn’t a DIY picnic taste better anyway?
