How Much Should You Spend On A Wedding Proposal?

by Tanya June 13, 2023

The amount you should spend on a wedding proposal is subjective and depends on various factors, including your personal financial situation, your partner’s expectations, and the significance you want to attach to the moment.

Usually, the lower end of the spectrum spends around $3,000, and those with higher budgets typically spend more than $7,000.

Traditionally, romantic gestures are something that were be big and bold. And you can still do it, especially if you know your partner would love it.

But you can also go for something more intimate and less public.

How to plan a wedding proposition

Engagement ring specialist F. Hinds research revealed that 74% of Brits would rather be proposed to in a lowkey, private setting.

It’s important to consider your partner’s preferences and values when planning the perfect wedding proposal.

Some individuals may appreciate an extravagant and elaborate proposal, while others may find more value in a heartfelt and intimate gesture.

What matters most is the sincerity and thoughtfulness behind the proposal rather than the amount of money spent.

Think about creating a memorable experience that reflects your relationship and demonstrates your love and commitment.

This could involve planning a meaningful activity, organizing a surprise gathering with close friends and family, or selecting a sentimental location at home or abroad that holds significance for both of you.

Brits love going abroad, which doesn’t come as a surprise thanks to the perpetual grey skies. The study revealed that almost a third (32%) of Brits would like to be proposed to at a gorgeous location abroad.

Depending on what you want to do, you may have to consider transport, accommodation, supplies, hiring venue/staff, and of course – the ring.

How to pick the right engagement ring

Choosing the right engagement ring can be an overwhelming task, so make sure you:

* Budget: Determine your budget range before you start shopping. This will help you narrow down your options and prevent you from overspending.

* Research: Learn about the different types of engagement rings, including the various metals (such as gold, platinum, or silver) and gemstones (such as diamonds, man-made diamonds, sapphires, or emeralds). Understand the 4Cs of diamonds (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight) if you decide to go for a diamond ring.

* Style and preference: Consider your partner’s style and preferences. Take note of the jewelry they currently wear or if they have expressed any preferences in the past. Think about whether they would prefer a classic and timeless design or a more modern and unique style.

* Ring size: Find out your partner’s ring size discreetly if you want the proposal to be a surprise. You can borrow a ring they wear on their ring finger or enlist the help of a friend or family member.

* Visit jewellry stores: Visit reputable jewelry stores and try on different rings to get an idea of what looks good and feels comfortable. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek guidance from knowledgeable staff.

* Customize or pre-design: Decide whether you want to customize the ring or choose from pre-designed options. Customization allows you to create a unique ring tailored to your partner’s tastes, while pre-designed rings offer convenience and a wide selection.

* Quality and certification: Ensure that you purchase an engagement ring from a reputable jeweler who provides a certificate of authenticity for diamonds. This ensures the quality and authenticity of the ring.
